Goit Stock Falls

This gentle figure eight walk, takes you along a quiet lane that brings you face to face with a small, but impressive waterfall. You then meander back through fields and farmland. The current images were taken after a snowfall, so please make allowances for the scenery.

Distance: About 3 miles, or atchoo kilometers.
Time: An hour and a half max.
Height: Gentle slopes with very little exertion.
Difficulty: Very little exertion with gentle slopes.
Scenery: Stream and waterfall then pastoral.
Location: SE 088378 : Driving into Harden, take the Wilsden Road to find parking on the hill above and over on the right, before the bridge and the Malt Shovel pub.
Maps: OS Explorer 288 Bradford & Huddersfield : Outdoor Leisure 21.

1

From your parking point, walk downhill towards the Malt Shovel pub and at this point (see picture) turn right into Goit Stock Lane.

Continue along this pathway keeping the stream on your left. The road and river bear left together.

2

You will arrive at this caravan park. (picture) Follow the driveway passing the park on your right. Pass the marked footpath on your right and continue forward. At the wood signpost - follow the path for the Millenium Way.

Keep the river on your right.

3

Follow your nose right to the end, where you will be met by this small but beautifully formed waterfall.

In the right season there is so much wildlife here. Look out for all sorts of birds and mammals.

At the end of the path near the falls, and over on your left, there is a handrail. Climb the steep steps steadily, and forge on past the waterfall's edge.

4

Keep the river over on your right, and follow it until in sight of this (pictured) wooden bridge.

The earth path takes you to the metalled path. Do not go right to the bridge, but turn left and head uphill.

5

Not long uphill turn left at a gap just before some houses.

Walk on, and not far from here is this (pictured) set of steps. Go over the three stepped stone stile into a field with a dry stone wall on your left.

6

There are four fields, continue on straight as a die through each one, and in the fifth, about 200 yards in, you turn left here (pictured). and stumble through a wood stile effort.

Walk downhill keeping to a vague path that goes forward and a little to the right.

7

At the bottom, if you see a small bungalow you are on the right path, and if you recognise the crosspaths here, you are not suffering dementia.

Turn right on the path then left (Leech Lane) onto this (pictured) small single file wood bridge. You have to turn right at the bridges end.

With the river on your right and the caravan site, follow the route.

8

Following the waysigns left, you now have to turn right here (picture) and go through this gap in the hedge...you eventually start walking uphill.
Pass a large chimney stack in a field, over on your left.

Go through a wooden five bar diamond gate.

You find yourself passing quaint private homes on your left.

9

Once out of the other side of the private residence, continue along the track until, just before it turns a sharp left, you reach a wood and stone stile contraption on your right.(see picture)

Turn right and go downhill following this path, passing a rock with a direction arrow.

10
Pass a farmhouse on your left and eventually the track will bring you to the main road. (see picture)

Turn right and head downhill back to your car.

No toilets are available along this walk.
