Horton by Ribble

This is a good river walk, which is both easy and on the level.
Start near the Church and walk towards the River Ribble. Cross the river and walk part of the Ribble Way, then back. You have a choice of two pubs, ample parking and excellent toilet facilities. Easy Peasy, about an hour.

Distance: About 2 miles or four fags.
Time: A little under an hour's wander
Height: On the level, a few stiles to crawl over
Difficulty: Easy (Apart from getting past the pubs)
Scenery: Lots of pasture, small wood, and Pen-y-ghent
Location: Horton-in-Ribblesdale Village
Maps: Not really needed
Bus Service: The famous Settle-Carlisle railway line provides a convenient link from Skipton to Horton in Ribblesdale. See www.settle-carlisle.co.uk for details.

1

Head North into the village via the B6479, and park for free (if you get there in time) on the slip road, over to the left of this (pictured) signpost.

Please give space to allow others out. Otherwise drive through the village and park in the main carpark on the left before the bridge.

2

Walk past the church on your right, towards this pub (pictured).

You can choose to do this walk in either direction. Just reverse the directions from here. Either walk down the road past the Public Toilets and go over the wooden bridge...or

Turn into Chapel Lane on the left and head down it for a few hundred yards. (Or metres if you want to be posh)

3

At this point (pictured) turn right and go through this open gate.

Follow the cinder path.

4

You arrive here. (picture)

Cross the stream via this gated wooden single path bridge.

Once over, turn sharp right and just follow the stream down towards a large wooden bridge over the river.

5

Cross the wooden bridge and turn right.

From now on keep this river on your right all the way to the main Road.

Just follow the path and enjoy the views.

6
A fairly dog friendly route!
7
Arriving here, you can climb this set of steps (pictured) up and onto the pathway, turning right.
8

Cross this bridge (pictured), and follow this pathway all the way to the main road.

Turn right and you will pass the public toilets and car park on the right.

You just follow this road back to the car.

There are toilets along this route, as mentioned, and in both pubs.
