At this point (picture) climb the wood stepped stile on the left of the road. (the gate is locked) and head along the path signed by a wooden post to Clapham.

Another wooden stepped stile, go over in the direction of the yellow arrow.

At this (pictured) wooden stepped stile, beware the top wood struts!

Go over this stepped stile, and onto a lane.

Once on the lane, turn right and walk along here for about half a mile.

Before the road, this padlocked 5 bar wooden gate, (picture) and wood stepped stile. Go over the stile, and follow the track to your left.

Pass the open 5 bar double gate on your left, keeping to the footpath, and have the five foot drystone wall, also on your left, ...head for the higher ground.

The gate here may be locked (picture), but access is by the three stepped stone stile to its right.

Follow the track uphill and where the drystone wall veers left, bear right. Take time out to explore; head for this four-way wood signpost. If you want to look at the Erratics (this is why you're on this walk, right?) head straight up, (following the directions of the post) for the high ground and take in the geological, and scientific phenomena.

Once seen; head back to this (pictured) post and follow the path away from Clapham, East towards Crummack.

Follow the track meeting a drystone wall on your right, go along the track for 25yds, then over a four stepped stone stile on your right, follow the path down and towards your right.

At the bottom, go over this drystone wall (pictured) at the steps, just past the sheep hole. Now with the limestone face on your left and the nasty drop on your right, keep to the path and enjoy the view to your right without falling off the edge!

Go over two wood ladder stiles. (picture) The second has a wooden fingerpost behind it. (for Public Footpath)

Cross over a man-made track, and follow an ill defined green pathway towards some limestone outcrops.

Coming out of the bridleway/footpath which is also a private road, onto a proper public road...(pictured) here ... turn right.

Black & white posts down the right hand side have since been added.

After about 100yds, turn left at a bridleway signpost (picture) to Wood Lane, and the road leading to Wood End Farm

Arriving at the farmhouse, do not enter, but take that walled pathway just before it on the right. (see picture).

Follow the lane. Pass a path from the left and a gate on your left. At a small cross of tracks (SD776684) you can either take the route forward, eventually going over a small clapper bridge, to end at the main road (SD770687) then turn left, heading SW back into the village.

Or take the track to the left continuing down Wood Lane, ending at SD 769682. Turn right on Graystonber Lane back into the village over Austwick Beck.

Both these routes return you back to the village of Austwick.
