Gargrave

A mild quiet walk through fields and along a canal pathway, taking in rail, road, canal, and public footpaths. A relaxing easy trail for a balmy evening, or a short stroll before a pint !

 

         

 

 

   
Distance: 3 miles
Time: 1 to 2 hrs.
Height: Not a lot
Difficulty: Hardly ever taxing.
Scenery: Green and Pleasant.
Location:

Park either in the free car park in North Street near the school, or by the river. Closer still is the tarmac opposite the Masons Arms.

Walking past the church on your left,turn right just past Church Close House, following the Pennine Way.

Bus Service: You can take the train from Skipton to Gargrave (daily), or the regular Pennine bus on Mondays to Saturdays, with occasional buses on Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays. See www.dalesbus.org for details.

Clamber over this wood stile, then down onto the lane. Turn left and cross the bridge over a railway line.

Pass one stile on the left like this, then go over this stile (pictured) left of the path, and left of the gate. Head for that post you can see in the distance.

At the post vear right and head for the largest tree seen in the distance far right in picture.

Pass this metal 5 bar gate keeping to its right.

Go through the gate on the right of this tree, about midway down the field.

Through the gap shown here !

Follow the line of hawthorns uphill, on your right.

...Now at the end of the this lane, go over the canal bridge, ( here ) and turn RIGHT !

Pass through the gate onto the road and straight on...canal on your right.

Turn right, go over this bridge and follow the path with the canal now on your left.

Down this path.

At the metal signpost, turn right.

There you go...hardly any help from the old curmudgeon...
