Best
place to start is the car park beside the Bus Station, just off Keighley
Road. Here we find on our left, the Post Office, and Sunwin
House (Co-op). Following the curve of the path, that takes
us left onto Keighley Rd. We pass Dillons the newsagent, Link
Telecom for mobile phones, Choice a small retail outlet
selling bric-a-brac, and Meadowcroft shoe repairs. On the corner
is a shop called Amoeba selling clothing for cool dudes. |

Turning
left into Swadford St, on our left is Berries the florist,
the Craven Bakery, and a modernised pub, called Breeze.
Next Timpsons, mens, and ladies-wear, Franciose a Brody's,
Cafe, and then the other entrance of the Post Office, and Sunwin
department store. Crossing the road, ahead of you is Tootsie,
shoes and leather goods, after that is Blazes, for fires and
surrounds. Beyond these are a barber, a cane shop a carpet shop, Focus
DIY, and Morrisons Food Store, with a huge car-park, and then
the Railway Station. |

On
the other side of the road returning from the bridge, is Bizzie
Lizzies fish and chip shop. Across the road directly ahead, is
Eight Foods delicatessen, keeping to the shops on your left,
The Swadford Old Folks Rest Centre, open 9:30 till 3:30 Mon.
Wed. Thurs. Fri. on Sat. 9:30-12:00, and closed Tues. and Sun. Next
the Cock and Bottle pub, then the News-shop, the Coral
betting shop, Fosters furniture shop, Reelspin, an amusement
arcade. Age Concern, charity shop, and Harriets, a female
clothier. Pumpkin Card and Balloon Company, next Fractions,
a kiddies clothes store, Global Video, videos, and DVD's. Dalesocks,
for socks and wool. Then Oxfam, a charity shop. The YMCA
Training Centre, Skipton Fashion, clothing, and Dolland
and Aitchinson opticians. |

Keeping
the shops to our left still, and making our way up the cobbled path
into Sheep St. is The Woolly Sheep Inn, pub and grub.
Thomas's watches and jewellery. Kodak Express, film processing,
Dacre, Son and Hartley, estate agents, Milletts the
army store. Clarkes shoe shop, and The Link, for mobile
phones and telecommunications. Max Speelman, photo-processing,
whilst over on your right now is the Edinburgh Wool Shop.
On the left is an archway, leading to Victoria Square. Through here
you will find Pulse, chinaware, Woodware, an art gallery,
Eastend, female clothes, Bells shoe shop. Also an
octagonal glass gazebo, Avena, selling lotions
and potions.
Further down still is Victoria Court where you will find the Mobility
Shop for scooters, and help for the disabled. Dominion,
interiors and gifts, and there is also Cinderellas,
bridal and
eveningwear, The Flower Company, Spike
Island designer clothing and the Narrow Boat
pub. (The end of the the street brings you out at Coach Street (see
instruction 9 ) where you can turn left then left again so as to
pass the camera shop and a pizza restaurant, returning to the square...
... and heading the way we came in, Time and Tune, selling
violins and other musical instruments. Specialists Travel,
travel agent, Sycamore Studios, photography, Jakes Symmonds,
Bistro, Barnets Hair, hairdresser, Home and Kitchen,
domestic hardware, and Clinton cards. Back out into the High
street again, and turning left is Mo's, dress shop, Clintons
Cards again, and Greenwoods, mens clothing. On the right
of this cobbled lane, is Bradford and Bingley building society,
the Watch shop, Just Books, bookshop, up the stairs
are Yorkshire Collectables, full of cuddly toys
and bears, Recollections, bric-a-brac, Hamiltons,
ladies fashions, Mellow Moments, a candle shop. Mr Minnit,
key maker, Tog 24, clothes, and a Woollen jumper shop.

Passing
on your left are Mountain Warehouse a factory outlet, W
H Smiths the stationer, Hannam, jeweller, Vodaphone,
mobile phones, New Look, womens fashion, Lunn Poly,
travel agent, (passing Hallam's Yard, (down which, you will
find a carpet shop, G & C Smith) next is Bakers Oven,
baker, Extra's, accessories for kids and girls. |

Continuing
along the High St. now with shops on your left, are Boots opticians,
next door to Boots the Chemist, Stead and Simpsons,
shoe shop, Yorkshire Bank, Just Jeans, clothing, Greggs,
bakers, Dorothy Perkins, ladieswear, Burtons, male and
female clothing, Craven Herald, local newspaper, Thorntons,
sweets, Next, clothes for men and women, Craven College,
education, and notable good food served on Sat. lunchtime. The Library,
lending books CD's & DVD's, Slaters, electrical goods,
Wild's cafe & bakery, The Body Shop, lotions and
smellies, Just'n So, bric-a-brac, and the Black Horse
Pub. |

Coffee
and Cream, cafe, Rayners, opticians, Healthy Life,
natural food centre, Cafe Jaca, cafe, David Goldie,
gents outfitters of quality clothing, Farmhouse Fare, pies
and sausages. Now turning left and following the pavement is the Sweet
Shop, over on the right is Skipton Castle at the top of the street,
past that is the Castle Pub, and the start of the Skipton
Woods walk. Carry on on your left is Delicious, a clothing
shop for ladies, Amy Eagan, bric-a-brac and antiques, MillionHairs,
ladies hairdresser, The Celebrated Pork Pie Establishment,
then we turn left into Water St. |

Here
on the corner of Water St. you can see over on the other side of the
road in front of you, is the Royal Oak, pub, and next door
is Walkers, bakery and cafe. Further on is Lumination,
selling shades, bulbs and everything to do with lighting. On the side
you are travelling on is a Wine Shop, and The Bicycle shop,
Cut Above, hairdresser, a Chartered Accountant, Skipton
Bed & Suite Centre, What's Up, juggling equipment, Yangs,
chinese take-away, John Roach, carpets and blinds, and Friars,
fish and chip shop, whilst over on the right side from Elliot st.
is The Skipton Kitchen Company, New England, bric-a-brac,
Christian, hairdresser, and Sam Houston's food/cafe. |

At
the end of the street turn left as you reach the Commercial
pub, and walk down Coach St. towards the Tourist Information Centre.
(passing a large car park on your right). Here you can pick up
further information about Skipton, and it's attractions. Going over
the bridge, there are shops on both sides. On the left are, Cadeaux,
gifts, Craven Stationary, pens/paper etc. Skipton Gas Centre,
appliances, Whisper Free, bric-a-brac, and to the left in the
square, are, Cherub Antiques, and Craven Cameras, then
The Rose and Crown, pub, ...on the right side, are Lotus
Petals, bric-a-brac, AJP Interiors, the Oswaldtwistle
Mills, textiles, The Cutting Room, hairdressers, Scoop,
ice-creams, Waterside, Restaraunt, Lock Stock and
Barrel pub, and George Fisher, boots, tents, and waterproof
gear. At the end of the street we turn left by the Repertoire. Head
for the High St. again only this time we by-pass Sheep St. and go
to the right of the National Westminster Bank, by Le Caveau restaurant,
on your left, and cross the road, at the lights. |

After
crossing here you can wander up and down Otley St. Here on the right
is Motor World, car accessories, Wilman & Lodge,
estate agents, Sinclairs, china and crystal, Karen Allen,
Help the Aged, and a little further on is the other entrance
to the Craven Court Shopping Centre. Crossing over and coming
back down to the High St. again are The Hatters sandwich bar,
an unmarked florist, butchers, Drake & Macefield,
The Coffee Mill, John Exley, an optician, Sutcliffes,
family butcher, The Craven Bakery, bakers, and Althams,
travel service. |

Turn
right here to take in the shops, now on your right. After Althams,
is Skiptons own department store, Rackhams, then Toy World,
toys, the Red Lion pub, Threshers, wine shop, and Clair
Whitaker, chocolates. High St. Tea Rooms, Crossing the
road, which incidentally leads to a very large Car Park...over
to the Town Hall, which houses Skipton Museum, and on
Saturdays holds an indoor market. As you look up to the top
of the high street, you will see the castle and further over to the
left, the church. |

Now
we have to return back to Otley St, where from here with the shops
to our left, we pass, Barclays Bank, H. Samuel, jeweller,
the other entrance to Craven Court, Birthdays, and Partyland,
cards, and bric-a-brac, Skipton Building Society, HSBC,
bank, Halifax, building society, Abbey National, building
Society, British Heart Foundation, charity shop, and Johnstons,
dry cleaners. Also as you may have noticed on a Mon. Wed. Fri. and
Sat. are Market days. |

Turning
left down Newarket St. we pass on our left Mix Music, music
shop, tapes & CD's, Renaissance 2, pictures and picture
framing, The Yorkshire Sofa Company, sofas, Steckers,
barber shop, Premier Floor, flooring specialist, Nest Egg,
financial services, Pets Paradise, petfood, and the like, Cornerstone,
christian books & crafts, Neil Rankin, travel agent, E.W.
Smith & Co, mortgage broker, ... on the other side, coming
back are, A taste of Italy, food/delicatessan, Chips,
games centre, playstation etc. The Art Shop, paints, paper
etc., Devonshire Hotel, free house, Sam Wedges, eatery,
Sue Ryder, charity shop, Joiners, anything for the DIY
merchant, Tote bookmakers, James Pye & Son, estate
agent, The Job Centre, if your'e looking, T & H Brown,
outfitter, and shoes, SENSE charity shop, Superdrug,
chemist, and Woolworths. |

Heading
back now towards our starting point, and with the shops still on our
left are, Ponden Mill, household and soft furnishings, Lloyds
TSB, bank, Cancer Research, charity shop, Newmark,
pharmacy, Bon Marche, ladies outfitter, Scope, charity
shop, Wildes, bakers, Yeomans, army and navy store,
Yorkshire Book, clearance outlet, and Raj Indian Cuisine,
you can cross back over the road via the pedestrian crossing, to where
you originally started. |
