A very gentle wander around Canal pathways and the Park, with hardly
any steep inclines and taking just under an hour to complete. Helps to
get a feel for the Skipton area.
| 1 |
Leaving the Skipton Tourist Information Centre,
turn left and head towards the Commercial Pub. |
 |
| 2 |
Turn left at the major road, and walk about a quarter
of a mile up this road... |
 |
| 3 |
...to the Aireville Park entrance which is on the
left hand side. |
 |
| 4 |
On entry, take the path that leads to the right...
|
 |
| 5 |
...and then to the left. |
 |
| 6 |
Head towards a path junction and take the left hand
way. |
 |
| 7 |
You'll notice a golf course on the right, and views
left across the park with a wide variety of trees. A little further
along this path is a gate, leading into a meadow. You may enter this
meadow, (Gawflat Conservation Meadow) but please respect the instructions
and stay to the edge of this field, do not stray from the path. |
 |
| 8 |
Directly on entering the meadow, turn left, go past
a plaque... |
 |
9 |
...and on reaching the bottom left hand corner,
turn sharp right, heading up a slight, gentle incline. Follow
this pathway until you reach the end of the top left corner of the
field. |
 |
| 10 |
Then go through a small opening and
out onto the canal path. Turn left. |
 |
| 11 |
Head towards the main town via this
path, with the canal on your right. Soon you will see a canal swing
bridge. Cross over this to the right... |
 |
| 12 |
...and once over the bridge, turn left to continue
the towpath now with the canal on your left hand side. |

|
| 13 |
You will pass the rear of Herriots Pub/Hotel on
your right. After some distance, you will reach another bridge, but
we are going to carry straight on.
|
 |
14 |
As you meander along this path, with the canal
still on your left, you will notice
some interesting and informative plaques on the way.

|
15 |
...and also a photo opportunity, when you arrive
at this point above the river. |

|
16 |
Continuing along the canal pathway, you will
eventually arrive at a large white post, and at this point, you should leave
the canal path, turning right onto the pavement (Belmont Wharf).
Walk the
few yards uphill onto the main street, and turn left, going over the bridge. |
 |
17 |
Head towards Bizzie Lizzies, (Fish and Chip Shop),
and on that corner turn left again down Coach St. Follow the
road down and over the bridge above the canal until you are back at
the Tourist Information Centre and Car Park visible on your left. |
