Copper Dragon Brewery

August 2003

Breweries have always held a fascination for me, apart from the obvious reasons. I went to have a look at the newly appointed Skipton Brewery, which, although it only became operational in March this year is already going from strength to strength.
I promise... not a drop passed my lips...

Ruth, partner to Steve Taylor showed me round the facilities, whilst the heavenly smell of malt, barley and hops wafted about my nostrils.

History of Skipton Brewery

In 1816 a maltster from Leeds by the name of Christopher Scott built his first steam powered brewery on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool canal in Skipton. For almost ninety years the Scott family brewed quality ales for the local community. Now almost one hundred years later, the town has a new brewery based just outside the historical town centre. Copper Dragon Ales is the trade mark of the new Skipton Brewery Ltd.

Taking water from upper Wharfedale, our state-of-the-art brewhouse, combines modern technology, with the traditional techniques laid down by our forefathers.

Brewing

"Good barley makes good malt which makes good beer" - at Copper Dragon Brewery we use only the very best! Award winning Morris Otter, Crystal, and Roasted Malts contracted to leading U.K. maltster Thomas Fawcett & Sons of Castleford.

In the copper only traditional English whole hops, grown and harvested in the hop gardens of Kent and Worcester are used to give that authentic bitter flavour and unique hoppy aroma. Temperature controlled fermenters maintain the correct conditions for our own yeast strain to produce consistent quality ales.
The use of our own drays ensures deliveries direct from the brewery to the customer.
All enquiries please contact the brewery:
