Craven Voluntary Action

CVAWe provide advice, information and support to voluntary organisations in Craven.

Help is available on a variety of subjects including funding, organisational development, management, and charity registration.

We liase with statutory bodies such as Craven Harrogate and Rural Primary Health Care Trust, Craven District Council and North Yorkshire County Council. We encourage, promote and support representation and involvement by volunteers, voluntary groups, users and carers. We keep voluntary organisations informed of what is happening locally to ensure they are consulted, and have the opportunity to make their views known to statutory bodies at both district and county level.

We provide:

  • A bi monthly newsletter.
  • FunderFinder – a computer database of potential funding sources.
  • A directory of local voluntary and community groups.
  • Organise the Craven Voluntary Sector Network Forum.

We develop new services in response to identified local need. Current projects include:

CVADaybreak - a weekly day centre for older people who have little social contact.

Craven Furniture Scheme - collecting and distributing surplus furniture to those in need.

Craven Community Transport - encouraging sustainable community based transport through a minibus brokerage scheme, hiring out our own minibus, a car scheme and MiDAS training (minibus driver awareness).

Craven Little Red Bus - provides dial-a-ride transport within Craven taking in Long Preston in the West, Grassington to the North and Sutton in the south for those who cannot access public transport.

We are a partner in Craven & Harrogate Rural Transport Partnership which aims to help rural people without cars to travel to access facilities, services, employment and training and assists in provision of new transport services.

The Resources department of Craven Voluntary Action hires out a variety of equipment for the use of those working in the voluntary sector and CVA members. Items include:

  • Overhead Projector & Screen
  • Display Boards
  • Flip Chart
  • Powerpoint Projector & Screen
  • Loop system
  • Photocopying facilities
  • Laminating and Bookbinding

Need help with funding?

Funderfinder (GIN) is a computer software programme that help not for profit organisations identify those charitable funders – usually trusts or foundations- that might be sympathic to a particular appeal. You use it in conjunction with various directories of grant making trusts.

FunderFinder has a computer database with details of over 5000 trusts who give grants to voluntary and community groups. GIN is a way of quickly and comprehensively searching through the published directories and relevant websites. Information on grant-making bodies is regularly updated

If you have a project for your group that needs funding we might be able to help, so why not get in touch with the Funding Adviser at Craven Voluntary Action who will assist you through the process.
