Praise for SkiptonWeb

Praise for the SkiptonWeb site that we've received via e-mail:

Dearest Cragface,

I don't know you, nor would I recognise you, but I believe I am in love with you. Well, that's probably a bit strong, let's say I have a profound fondness for you!!!
My husband and I (and our 2 and a half year old daughter) visited your beautiful part of the world this past week. We stayed on Main Street in Haworth. Idyllic to say the least. Before our holiday I spent a few hours on the internet trying to find things to do in the area. Then I found YOU! Your descriptions, pictures and quick witted comments made it impossible for us not to try some of your guides. And in fact we ended up doing three!!! We did the Skipton 'A walk around the town', but as we had started the day in Skipton castle, we started there instead of the bus station. This was amazing! We would never have seen half the things you led us to without this guide! Although I must say, a couple of the shop/club names have now changed, but we found our way around! And on a glorious day too! Fabulous!
Secondly (on a much rainier day) we tried the 'Dales Drive'. Your guide states 3 hrs, we did it in 6.5!!! Mind you, with my Sony camcorder, my husbands Canon SLR, and my daughter only just potty trained, you can understand why! The weather didn't matter at all. Every part of the journey was fascinating. My favourite part is the left turn just after the bridge near the Crag - into a field of cows! - ingenious!!! My husband didn't believe I was reading the instructions correctly!!
The third guide we followed was the 'Bronte Trail'. Being based in Main Street, this was ideal for us. My husband, bless him, carried our girl in a back pack on his back for most of the way around. The weather was dull and drizzly, but we were glad of that, don't think we could have done it in searing heat. You weren't kidding when you said to eat lunch with he flies by the waterfalls!!! We got attacked by tiny little striped flies!! As small as midges, and with teeth like piranhas!!! My poor baby girl's face was covered in flies! We couldn't stop for long to admire the surroundings, it was torturous! We all looked like we had the lurgi for the next few days, with red lumpy bites all over our faces and hands!!! Apart from that we thoroughly enjoyed the day. Although I must say our cottage smelt a bit cheesy when we got home!!!
I think it's fabulous that you have taken the time to write these guides. We would like to thank you dearly for sharing your wisdom with us and making our holiday all the more memorable. Keep up the good work!
Fondest regards,
J, S. and L. from flat and boring Lowestoft in Suffolk.

p.s. we left all our printed out guides in the leaflet box at the cottage so I hope someone else will find your worth.

Thank you for the wonderful info on the Skipton website. We had five days staying at the Crown hotel in Horton in Ribblesdale which was excellent. We used your walk Langcliffe to Stainforth on Saturday, Dales drive on Sunday (thanks for the suggestion at point 19 of the single track road to Hawkswick - great) and Malham Cove and Gordale Scar on Monday. Keep up the good work - D&C

Love your web pages attached to Skiptonweb – we come often as a family to the Yorkshire Dales, staying in Kettlewell. We have enjoyed some of the walks I already knew from years ago when I used to visit – but I always love to browse your pages before we are planning our trip – so easy to read and follow! We will be following some of your routes at Easter when we next “Head North”. Thanks for your inspiration! I am also teaching at a school in Surrey who bring a party of school children every year to Kettlewell to do a comparative study of the geography etc of the area – we have looked at some of your pages in lesson time so the children know what to expect when they get to Yorkshire! Especially the dry stone walling! Great stuff! So keep up the good work! Kind regards - Maggie : Boreham

We are coming to Skipton for a long weekend and I decided to look on the internet expecting only to find the usual pretty mediocre fare. What an excellent site - well designed, easy to use and with a sense of humour. It's made me look forward to our visit even more! Thank you for taking the time to produce and maintain it.- G, UK

Just wanted to let you know that my family visited Skipton at Easter and had a brilliant time. One of the things the kids enjoyed was the walk you gave on the web. It was easy to follow and gave us sights of Skipton that we would not have found for ourselves. My husband and I found the info on the local pubs very helpful but we were not able to find the family pub which is on one of the roads just out of Skipton. Not to worry, the Black Horse did very nicely and made us feel very welcome with the children. Thanks for all the info. - R, D & kiddies - UK

What an excellent site, well designed, easy to use and with a sense of humour.

I found this web site a year or so ago and was looking for useful information about Skipton because I was getting ready to go and live there for a few months. I looked up your website again, and what a fantastic improvement you have made! I especially like those 360 panoramic views of the town and the interactive map. I can look up places to rent which is my first priority. - S , USA

Just found your site. Like what I see so far. - B. Skipton

Like your site... did you do the interactive Flash map yourself? I like that a lot.- J. York

Could you please add us to your impressive website? - R. Skipton

We have looked at your site and are very impressed! Please could you add us onto the site and include a link - D. Skipton

Given the abject failure of the Craven Herald to have even a decent web site I think that you are on to a winner - C. Skipton

It's very impressive. You've got loads of quality stuff on Skiptonweb - you should be proud of it - K. UK

Basically I think its a brilliant site - S. Skipton

I see you have posted some new photos, and you did one from Christ Church tower. On the 360, I can see the house where I used to live last year. That made me feel right at home, and for that I thank you. - S. USA

Found your site a breathe of fresh air. Easy to navigate, very informative and well planned.

Hello from North Carolina... we wanted to send flowers for a lady's birthday who lives in Skipton and asked how are we going to find one. The preferred internet search engine here tends to Google which we have bookmarked. So we simply typed Skipton and hit GO! On the first page was your web site - the summary suggested it was the ideal place to start - and we found the florists. The whole process took no more than a couple of minutes so, in that respect, your site was incredibly effective - particularly to get replies quickly.
- J & E. USA

The SkiptonWeb site is excellent. Looking great! Very tidy indeed. - JB. Yorkshire

Congratulations on your wonderful website, how very thoughtful of you to create it. I visited it today for the first time and found it a useful source of information. I would be very grateful if you could add Petsearch UK (for Skipton) to your directory. - E. Skipton

What a fantastic database of information for skipton. No other local site comes close. Look forward to visiting again soon. - D. UK

I quite enjoy reading your site - it's got some great links and ideas, I love all the local pictures, 360 degree photos etc....I hope that in some small way I can be part of helping to promote Skiptonweb, it is certainly adding something electronically to Skipton.- A. Skipton

It is very well designed and easy to use. The 360 degree panoramic view was very impressive.

I think that your site is great, love the layout and the follow through the sites - L. Skipton.

Skiptonweb - great website. First saw it last year when planning to move to Skipton from London. Hadn't looked since then til tonight - lots of improvements. Easily best Skipton site. Particularly like the idea of trying to create a 'real' community. -M. Skipton

Hello Skiptonweb, really good site you have here. The gallery section is excellent - always being updated with new pictures. Cheers guys. How about adding a section for all the roadworks we get?! You could take a few on Cavendish Street, plenty to be snapped on Broughton road at the moment too! - PJ. Skipton

I have a second home in Skipton. I try to get there as often as possible, but when I am missing the old place, I can look at your site and remind myself of why I like it so much. One really does get a sense of being there. - P, Lincs

Finally! A site with links to B&B's where available. I've been looking for you for hours. Hope I find a place on short notice. I particularly liked your comment about camping if you had a choice. I'm off to the YH in Malham but need a bed the night before. You're the best I found on Google. - D, UK

I have been looking at your site quite a bit over the last couple of days. I find it clear and easy to navigate and it’s refreshing to see a site like this in tourism. It’s a great advert for what your company can do. Nice one. I agree with you on the copyright thing as well. Good to see some humour on the subject. - J, UK

Like your site... did you do the interactive Flash map yourself? I like that a lot.

Hi Cragface, Just back from a week's holiday based in Skipton. Thanks for all the info on the website. We enjoyed the Malham walk, and the walk around the town, which helped us to get a feel for the whole of Skipton. - A. Scotland

Please oh please send me the high-res. photos of Skipton Castle! I don't know what I'm going to do with them yet, but I'm a Clifford from Washington, USA , and need I say more? Thanks - K. USA

Hi Skipton Web, your site is looking great, it grows and grows, must be spending more time on the hobby than the day job. - D. UK

Found your site a breathe of fresh air. Easy to navigate, very informative and well planned. - J. Skipton.

Hi. Best website around. - D. Skipton

Hey guys: Great website you've put together for Skipton. I'm an American who's visited Skipton several times and for reasons I'm not quite sure of, have fallen in love with the place. Looking around your site (especially the 360 degree panoramas) brings back pleasant memories and makes me homesick and I'm not even a Brit! Great job. - G. USA

This is one of the best laid out sites I have visited, very easy to navigate around, lots of novel ideas. Brilliant. - P. UK

Thanks for allowing the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (www.basc.org.uk) to use your wonderful guinea fowl pictures in our gamekeeping membership magazine, The Custodian. The picture was used to illustrate an article which focussed on guinea fowl's standing as a quarry species and will help to clarify an issue which has been raised by our members several times. If you send me a postal address I will send you a copy of the magazine for your files. Thanks again and best wishes - T.M. basc.org.uk

I found your web site very helpful. It is the first time for me to visit the Dales. Since I do not have a lot of time, I try to collect the information through Internet. Your web site was/is extremely useful for me. For example: now I know that I do not need to travel to York for renting a car. Kind regards - M, Germany

I came across your excellent site via the James Pye site, which I think is the best property site I have seen.

Hi. I was actually looking for the Craven Herald site, but hooked into yours by mistake! Loved the piccies, especially of the new places that have gone up since I left. I still have the shots of the old Dorothy Wards being dismembered along with the rest of the area between High Street and the canal. Ah those nostalgic days, when the Albion was run by Pete and Christine, Capper would be in the corner between French lessons with his pipe and John would be supping a pint of mild. Comments page? - some interesting bits to say the least. Oh yeah, the praise bits - great, informative, colourful, easy to navigate, nostalgic, now can I have a pint of Tetley's? - C.W. UK

I am originally an Harrogatonian but left there in 1948. My wife and I are both 86 yrs of age and found your site by accident whilst searching for Harrogate sites, Very enjoyable. - S&D. UK

Let me congratulate you all on a wonderful Website. In the early 50's all our School Trips (St Bede's Bradford) were into the Dales. The sights I saw then have stayed in my mind since (now they're on the Internet), every Sunday Morning (before the traffic builds up) I drive into the Dales with my 10 year old Grandson and we revisit the places of my youth. ~ Yorkshire Born & Bred ~ I've travelled the world and there's no better place. Keep up the good work. - P.M. UK

Steve, I saw your map at skiptonweb.co.uk/flashmap/ and it is the best I have seen. I have a large map that I would like to do the same navigation you did. I have downloaded a lot of files trying to figure out how to do it. Thank you for any help you can give me. - B.A. Nevada

Hello, I came across your excellent site via the James Pye site, which I think is the best property site I have seen. I had no idea there was a dedicated Skipton site like yours. - C. Settle

Peace.. Great Site.
C.B. (C12) - USA

...it must have taken 6 months solid work taking all the pictures in the galleries. - A. Otley

Good luck with your excellent site. For the moment, I will continue to add snippets to the message board if you don't mind. - M. Skipton

Thank you very much for making this web site; it has helped me no end.

Hi Steve, Just wrote to congratulate you on a job very well done on the Skiptonweb Flash Map thingy. I speak as one who understands and therefore appreciates even more the skill and care with which this was carried out. Skipton appears to be a charming spot to enjoy an afternoon ale after a hard morning cruising down the canal. I hope someday I will experience it firsthand, but until then you've supplied the next best thing. Praise where praise is due, I say, and praise is due to you, I say. - PM. Denmark

Dear CragFace, I would like to congratulate you on a most excellent website. Last year, I took part in a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze expedition. As part of the write- up, I had to find some information about stiles. I was unable to find anything about useful. I spent half an hour endlessly searching on the internet. It was my good fortune to come across this marvellous website of yours. Thank you very much for making this web site; it has helped me no end. - JH. UK

I would like to say thank you for such a wonderful site. As a child I spent many happy times with my grandparents who lived in Skipton. My grandfather was married in Skipton parish church, as was my mother and father. I live in Western Australia, have been been here 35 years now, and still miss home. - J. Australia

At one time there was a bakery that made and sold oatcakes in Skipton and as a child I went there with my mother who was from the town. It apparently supplied gentlemen's clubs in London a hundred or more years ago, so it must have been good. Has it gone without trace and did their recipe survive? I'm afraid I don't know the bakers name. Any information would be welcome. I enjoyed your website. - M. Canada

Just had a look at your very impressive site. - CLH. Skipton

I'm bringing my class of kids from a special school in Bradford over to Skipton tomorrow by way of a its-nearly-Christmas-so-lets-go-out-for-the-day kind of trip. With my normal last minute organisation I'm just trying to find out things we can do and your web-site is excellent - just what I needed. I feel able to bluff to kids and support staff quite effectively now about Victorian architecture etc along the route - as if I had been researching it for weeks! Thanks very much. I hope your altruistic, for-the-good-of-all-mankind approach also results in reasonably large wads of cash coming your way! - CB. York

Hi Steve & Wayne, Happy New Year 2003, Thanks for all the support you have given us last year, and the excellent website, I love the way you record all the major events in Skipton (loved the Medieval Market page). I appreciate the front page advert for Sheep Day 2003. Thanks again - Andrew Rankine (Mayor of Skipton)

Beautiful site guys! - SM. Blackpool

Great Web Site! I was looking for info on Textile Mills in Skipton and your site was first on the search results. - G. Canada

...such a brilliant web site. You guys deserve a medal. We'll recommend this site to all our friends at home.

I visited the skipton web site. That is going to require many visits. I looked through the Railway station 360 panorama - great. Is it possible that this has been covered by a BBC program or a magazine? I feel I have seen this somewhere in something to do with steam engines. - A. India

I can recommend this site with real enthusiasm. They are super to deal with, fast to respond to e-mails and very patient with those of us that are not so good with this form of contact - A. Skipton

Howdy there folks. Fantastic web site - H enjoyed reading the articles, which she said were very informative. And J just loved the people section. Thanks for rounding of our fantastic holiday with such a brilliant web site. Im interested in having a 360°/panoramic photo on my website, looks amazing, could be good for new bars and big group shots, I have to learn this technique - SW. UK

Hi there! Have read through your web pages on the walk known to me as "up Clough". As I am seventy years of age now it brought back many happy memories from my childhood days. I was sent up to an Aunt and Uncle's house in Sutton-in-Craven during the war when the Doodlebugs and V2s were dropping in my home area of Dagenham. I enjoyed a wonderful period of approx. eighteen months living with my aunt, going to Sutton Primary School and generally exploring the moors and woods around the area. It was especially pleasing to see the shots of the Hall Estate gates and the views up the Clough to the top. How about a walk up from the village to Ravenstone? Thanks for a very pleasant surprise as I was sifting through Google having punched in Sutton-in-Craven when I came upon your site. Thanks - RS. Essex

You have a good site, keep it up - SA. Barnoldswick

Cragface is great. We spent four days over Easter in and around wonderful Skipton... Cragface for Prime Minister, I say...

G'day to you all from Australia. What a great web site you have. Back in the early 50s I was a member of the Skipton Young Farmers Club, is it still going? It puts many TIC sites to shame and every town should have its own version...

Hi Steve, I run a small local business bringing students from Europe to study the English language and enjoy our Heritage; they also participate in 'activities' of an educational nature... we discovered your excellent website on a recent visit to Skipton library; the staff had organised an 'Internet Quiz' for the students based on local websites - not only did the students enjoy the quiz but I got some great ideas to include in next years programme. Many thanks... it really is a very good and informative website, keep it up. Any chance of my business getting a mention? - MD. Skipton

What a wonderful web site, I am so impressed. A friend wanted some walking boots and I knew there was a shop in Skipton, it took 2 minutes to locate via your site. - SP. UK

This morning we followed the walk in Skipton Woods which we had downloaded from the SkiptonWeb site before leaving Australia. Thanks for all the information. There was no way we could have lost our way, the directions were so clear. Unfortunately today is our last day in this beautiful town, but we have enjoyed it immensely. Thanks - N.J.P. Australia

Hey, Steve. Really great map. I am in the middle of creating a map for a local town near where I live and have hit a wall. I can't figure out how to zoom in and out based on the center of the stage. I was wondering how you made it happen. My zooms always move the map so the user has to keep nudging it along as they zoom. I would be ecstatic if you would key me in on how you did it. Thanks - RB. California

Just to say I think your website is excellent. Very informative and we hope to do one of the walks next week. Thank you - BJP. UK

Found your item on the Gaping Gill Winch Meet after going down on the winch myself last Sunday. Great fun, as you say. Enjoyed your write-up, and good pictures too! - NJ. UK

We spent part of our holiday in Great Britain this past May cruising the Leeds and Liverpool canal on a hired narrowboat based in Skipton. The photos on your web site have brought a lot of our experiences back to life. Keep up the good work. We hope to return one day - M+LP. Saskatchewan

Hello there just been visiting your web site, we used to live in Embsay before we got married then we lived in Skipton, we have been in Australia for 46 years, but your photos brought all our memories back, of dancing at the Clifford Halland the Welfare, the Skipton Gala. Thank you for the memories. PS. I don't know if anyone there remembers a tripe stall outside the 'Hole in the Wall' pub - that was my Dad's - J+MJ. New South Wales

On an exceptionally serious note, I would like to nominate CragFace a Knighthood for his work in compiling the walks and pictures etc of the areas around Skipton. Although I'm domiciled abroad, I find his pictures excellent reminders of what I miss about Skipton and the Dales. Please stand up and take a bow CragFace. (PS have you ever been named or is your secret locked away alongside the recipes for Coke and KFC)?

Fantastic site, you are real professional at this stuff, best site in the county, you can see lots of hard work and hours have gone into this, I take my hat off to you - total credit and respect to you, Skipton is definitely on the map as you show up really well - T.J. UK

A thoroughly well-designed website. Very informative - KT. Kent

I just thought I'd let you know how impressive your website is, but then you probably already know that. I searched for Skipton on the web as my brother in law & family has just moved to Skipton from Berkshire. Living in Essex I wanted to know more about the place as he had enthused about it over the phone and I also wanted to send some flowers etc to welome the family to their new home. The site is informative but also interesting just like speaking to someone on the phone rather than getting a recorded message. I found out lots about Skipton, and with the map I can now pinpoint where the family have moved to and see where they mean when they talk about different places such as the deer in the woods behind the castle. I also found a fabulous florist Flowers by Design and have added a suitable comment to their listing. (Unfortunately I didn't know before I added my 2000 character comment that there was a limit of 1000 characters). Once again a wonderful site giving information about a lovely place - K. Essex

Hi CragFace, I stumbled across this Skipton website when I did a search for a small tortoiseshell photo. Then I looked at your other photos and I must tell you I think they are wonderful. I especially like one of the bluebells (2238), and also the old tractor. I was looking for some inspiration for a painting and I would love to do a watercolour based on your bluebell photo - JT. UK

Hey Steve and Wayne at Skiptonweb, thanks for this messageboard. I like the way this particular thread has progressed into a debate! To the poster who writes limericks, good poem! - Brit/Am

Hi, Steve, I've just been looking at the great photos you have on your website and was wondering if we could use some of them in a publication we are producing - AB. Skipton

Terrific website. Any room for adding a section on local sport? Info on teams in Skipton/Craven/Dales, results, league tables, etc..

Just seen your excellent web site and found it very helpful to write commentary for a very short video I shot when passing through the town. I hope to return sometime and your web site certainly provides encouragement if any were needed. If there is any specific history about the Stanforth Pie Shop I would be grateful for the information. Thank you and congratulations again on a superb site - AR. London

Thanks for the wonderful photo gallery. My daughter especially loves the 360 degree photo of inside Skipton Library. She spent many hours there last summer emailing friends here in California while we enjoyed a three week stay in Appletreewick and visiting family who live in the Skipton area. I have made the photo of the village green in Burnsall the wallpaper on my laptop. If only I could be there now - EL. California

I was introduced to your website via one of our employees and found it most interesting. I congratulate you on a terrific production - TL. Skipton

As an exile (Leeds) living in Norfolk, thanks for the 360 panaramas of God's county! What a great idea! Very good site - CW. UK

As an ex Skipton dweller, who has many happy memories of Skipton, logging on to your web page was like going home. Beautifully put together and full of news and views, it's one not to miss. Many thanks - BP. UK.

As a fortnightly weekend visitor to Skipton, I visit your website when I'm missing the town, it cheers me up, it's brilliant. I love Skipton, I just wish I could afford to buy a property in the area! - DT. Lincs.

Very impressed. We did a search for holiday cottages in Skipton via Google and we were listed in the top 10 sites via SkiptonWeb - SG. Embsay

Hi Cragface. You have outdone yourself. The photos on the Bolton Abbey walk are just fantastic, and when I come back to Skipton next time, I shall definitely take this one. I always go to Bolton Abbey when I am visiting, I used to go a lot when I was a child and the whole area has happy memories. Nowadays I also enjoy a tub of Yorkshire Dales ice cream from the gift shop there! Thank you for all your walks, Regards - S. N.Carolina.

One of the very best local British websites I've ever come across. Good information and nice lay out. The 360° pictures are a great idea. I haven't visited Skipton for several years now, but I definitely feel like going back one of these days! Thanks for letting me have a nice holiday trip from my desktop in rainy Vichy and a nice recreation from grading my pupils' English papers. All the best - F. Vichy

Brilliant! Today I am sat in the workshop daydreaming about escaping from it all and heading up to North Yorkshire this weekend. We have a narrowboat moored up there, and my favourite place in the world is Malham! This is when I stumbled across your website, and the Panoramic / 360º / VR Gallery! It's brilliant! Panoramic pictures of all my favourite places, to sit and look through (nope, I am not doing ANY work today!) Can't wait to actually be there again, in fact if I throw a sickie tomorrow so I can go up earlier in the day then it will be your fault! Many thanks for making my day - KW. UK

Sir, Without doubt your website is the best composed, attractive and informative town website I have visited. Congratulations!! - MB. UK

Hi..This is a Yank from New Jersey and wanted to tell you we saw your scarecrow pictures posted here. We got an idea from the Humpty Dumpty and we made our own and entered it in a contest here in the states and won first prize! Halloween is big over here and it looks like you enjoy it too. Thanks for the pictures. Looks like Skipton is a nice place to live!

I'd just like to say that I think you've done a great job building SkiptonWeb - it's easy to use and get around and it looks great - you should be proud! - MB. UK

I love your site and totally commend what you're doing. I think its good to put something back into the community...

Dear Sir / Madam, I regret to inform you that my client Mr. NI is unable to cough up the aforementioned 50p. But he has asked me to pass on his most sincere thanks and also requested that I inform you that he thinks you are the best thing since operator operated phones and reckons you`re the very nuts of very mutts. Bless you - NI. UK

CF, you're a saint! Thanks a million. Hated Harrogate when we came up, and we loved Skipton. Thought it was a really lovely town. Lucky you to live there. Many thanks for all your help - JL. UK

Just a quick thank you for listing my site. Your site was the first to gave me a link from google and probably pointed the spiders in my direction for a google listing. I love your site and totally commend what you're doing. I think its good to put something back into the community. Well done SkiptonWeb - LC. Bentham

Steve, that's an awesome map! - B. Minnesota

This brings back a lot of memories, 'The Commercial' back in the late 40's when my mates and I spent every Saturday night serving our 'apprentiships' then we would wander off at closing time, pick up fish and chips on the way to the dance at the Black Horse. But we all grow up. My wife and I left Skipton in 1956 to come to Australia. Thanks for taking me back 'home' - JJ. Australia

I am full of praise of your website. I have never seen such an amount of information. Thanks - CM. UK

One of my best web experiences - EVER! If only the whole Internet was as well organised, tidy and up to date. Keep up the great work. Kind regards - JO. Somerset

I have taken a look at your web site to day and found it very interesting. When I have more time I will come back and explore some more. Very nice gallery. See you - PB. Denmark

Hello Skipton Map! I've looked at a lot of interactive maps, and yours is one of the best I've seen! Fast to load, intuitive, useful. Did you develop this yourselves? - AT. Canada

I'd just like to say Cragface that your walk descriptions and pics are the best free ones I've seen on the internet - keep up the good work! - KM. UK

A note to say thanks. To all involved with your page. I find it refreshing to see nicely designed, simple to use, informative pages with stunning photos. Its a pity all areas don't have one like this. Best regards. - R.UK

Hi Guys, the Skiptonweb site is terrific, and I find it very useful as a pointer for anyone coming to visit me in Victoria Mill or to Skipton generally. Best wishes - PS. Skipton

I live in Canada on the west coast. I would like to say that the web site is the best in the web world by far and have spent hours looking over the pages and CFs walks. Your site is like an addiction to me. I miss being in Skipton and can't wait to come back. Thank you ever so much - S. Canada

Dear Cragface, my wife and myself spent last week on holiday in Skipton and we went on several of your walks. All the walks were fantastic with good directions and great scenery we really enjoyed ourselves. We hope to return later this year. Regards - G&KW. UK

Found your web pages quite by accident - can't remember what I was looking for at the time. Have done the Wycoller walk - what a brilliant idea showing the stiles - at least you know if you're climbing over the right one! We have been rambling for about 20 years now but there are still so many places that we haven't been to and so many paths waiting to be trod. Always on the lookout for new walks. We will definitely try some of your other shorter(!) walks - the mind is willing but the legs are weak! Thank you also for the pictures - WN. UK

Hi, I just wanted to email you to say what a great website you have about Skipton. I was thinking of taking my 72 year old mum on a day coach trip to Skipton, but I have never been and did not know anything about the place, except that there was a castle and canal, (the trip appealed most because there is a trip on the canal with afternoon tea). After a trip on the canal, we have an afternoon free to look around the town Wow! what a place, I think we would be better having a few days!! Thanks and I think your virtual tour is just great - C. Hull

Hi. On saturday we tried your walk from the Pavilion, up to Simons seat, and back down via the river. I printed off the details/photos of the walk from the skiptonweb site and want to say how clear and precise they were. My family and i thoroughly enjoyed the walk, even the brief hailstorm we had whislt holding onto the trig point at the top! Thanks - IM. UK

I cannot describe how excited we were when we came across the 360 panoramas. They are truly astounding...

Dear Cragface, I'm very pleased to say I discovered your Walks pages just before my wife and I spent two weeks in Kirkby Malham at the beginning of May. In the fortnight, we followed 6 of your walks ie: Skipton Woods, Hubberholme, Norber Erratics, Ingleton Waterfalls, Malham, Langcliffe to Stainforth. They were all excellent, and your directions were really good (we didn't get lost once!). A few minor things had changed but this is to be expected over time. What was really helpful were your thumbnail photos (one stile can so easily sound just like another). So this is just to say thanks very much for taking the time and effort to put the walks together and make them available. Best wishes - TW. UK

Hello Steve, this is just a quickie to tell you I discovered Skipton Web quite by accident this morning. Just over a week ago my wife and I were in Yorkshire when we visited Nun Monkton to lay some flowers on my younger brother’s grave. On our ‘scenic drive’ home we drove through Pateley Bridge and Appletreewick so this morning I decided to see what the Net had to offer about Appletreewick. I cannot describe how excited both my wife and I were when we came across the 360 degree moving panoramas on view. They are truly astounding and the whole show is a great credit to you. The only trouble is that too many people ‘down south’ will come across them and proceed to mess things about by over-running the Dales with their southern accents etc. etc!! Thank you for all your efforts. You are doing a wonderful job bringing that glorious scenery right into our homes. Best wishes - RJ. Burnley

Fabulous. We are about to come up to Bolton Abbey for our annual holiday and I needed information before we find your tourist information office. What a fabulous website, and so helpful with all the photos on the walks. Thank you so much for helping us to enjoy your wonderful countryside - LL. Somerset

Hi, My wife and I have just done the Norber Erratics walk from your notes and photos. It was a fantastic walk and hugely enjoyable. The pictures were great and so helpful. We shall return to your website many times, we hope, and look forward to doing lots of the other walks. Congratulations on the site and best wishes for the future - GD. UK

Thank you for all your efforts. You are doing a wonderful job bringing that glorious scenery right into our homes...

This site is, without a doubt, the best in its line I have ever come across. Hope it keeps going in the years ahead - AK. Skipton

Dear Skipton Web, Have just completed the Penyghent 6 mile walk (as detailed on your website) with my wife and 2 kids. Would just like to say thank you as the details and instructions for the walk were superb, which helped to make a brilliant day. Even managed to catch a blizzard at the top! Keep up the good work! - AR. Leeds

You have one of the best local sites I have seen, by the way. Regards - MA. Kent

Congrats on a great website. I visited from the US about 14 years ago with friends living in the area, now planning for a visit for a wedding. The website pulls everything together very nicely - great photos, info, text and very good maps. Looking forward to bumping into some of you in the pubs - BB, White Plains, USA

I live in Canada and appreciated your website very much. We are plannning a trip to Skipton in May. As we are very interested in food, it was fun to see what is available - MH. Canada

Hi there Cragface, Just been out today and enjoyed the walk up to Embsay Crag. Many thanks for setting out the route so clearly. Just one thing - the gate at No. 8 is now a new wooden gate! Thought of taking a photo and posting to you but the mud might put anyone off. It was very, very boggy and muddy underfoot (and half way up our legs). Missed out the last bit over the fields from the step stile opposite the water and enjoyed an easy stroll through the village admiring the quaint cottages. Noticed a sign post to "None go bye". Old lady passing at the time - apparently it is the name of a farm off the Grassington Road. Have done a couple of your walks before and look forward to doing more. We like your stylish way of direction! Cheers - TN. UK

Looking at the pics in your gallery sure do bring back some great memories and I'd like to share mine in your gallery for others to enjoy. Thanks for creating this site, as i said you made some great memories come back to me - JS. Canada

Thank you all for your hard work on Skiptonweb, especially from those like myself who live in different corners of the globe and like to check up on the old 'home fires burning' every now and then. Through you and your technological skills, I am able to keep Skipton and the Dales with me every day. You are a great team! - BA. USA

I am a frequent visitor to the site as I like to keep informed of local news and it is a much quicker point of reference for me...

CragFace, Thanks for mentioning the money tree on the Ingleton Waterfalls walk, we might well have missed it otherwise (as other people did). We had a really great two weeks, helped by the wonderful weather - and by your walks. Many thanks again - TM. UK

A friend has just given us a print of walk from yourselves through Skipton woods. We enjoyed it very much and the instructions were great and kept the kids interested. Many thanks - NS. Bradford

Dear Crag Face, having regularly used SkiptonWeb to assist me with fulfilling my stays in the Dales I recently noticed the comment that you are the only 'User' to have contributed, albeit by (a great) pseudonym, since the sites inception. Therefore I just thought I’d take a minute to say; What a Contribution, I find both the Crag Face Chronicles and the walks with Crag Face brilliantly presented and very interesting. My family and myself have thoroughly enjoyed the walks we have undertaken from your postings as well as reading about, and becoming aware of, all the 'cottage' industries & events that you feature. Thanks for your efforts they are certainly much appreciated in this household at the other side of Yorkshire - AP. Beverley

Dear SkiptonWeb, I am a frequent visitor to the site as I like to keep informed of local news and it is a much quicker point of reference for me than the Craven Herald. Skipton Web provides a very valuable source of important information to the on-line community, especially for people who do not live locally but are researching up on Skipton and the Dales - CB. Skipton

Hi CragFace, I saw your wonderful site on the Skipton web page. We will be on vacation in Skipton this year. My wife and I love to hike. We this year would like to see your area. We only have a week this time so would like of course to see best areas. Do you have a book or publication of your hikes? Thanks - RM. UK

Just to say how good this site is and I'll keep my fingers crossed that you are all able to maintain it - it must be loads of work - JL. UK

Just wanted to say that is a great site, well designed, very functional and interesting. Congrats - YB. London

Thanks for putting together a really excellent website. It is first class and very informative. I am considering moving to Skipton but it is 22 years since I have been there. Thanks again and best wishes. Sincerly - NP. Germany

Thanks for putting together a really excellent website. It is first class and very informative.....

Firstly let me congratulate you on the web site and the great photos. As an expat Yorkshire Tyke living in Australia I found the site most interesting with many places photographed reminding me of my youth. I thought the 360 degree photos really great and wondered if you could tell me what software package was used. Your 360s seem to be some of the best flowing composites that I have ever seen. Whats the big secret? PS. Bradford born and bred, but don't hold that against me will you? Regards - P. Australia

Thank you for the site, it is well laid out, easy to use and informative. The message board brings a little ray of sunshine into my life, Edith and the Major not withstanding. Keep up the good work - PS. France

Hi Craggy!! Just trolling across the net and came across your walk details from Horton to Horton via Pen Y Ghent and just wanted to congratulate you on the walk details and accompanying photos, great stuff. I've done Peny Y Ghent innumerable times and from every direction possible but I think for a 'newby' this description is brilliant. Well done - MH. UK

Just arrived home from a day in Skipton. Enjoyed your walk through the park and that lovely meadow, then back along the canal. It was a wonderful escape from the market day hustle and bustle.Looking forward to another of your walks next time we come to Skipton - BC. UK

Thanks very much, your site is brilliant as ever. - EH. Craven Museum, Skipton

Just found your site, just had to say its absolutely brilliant....

What a fab site! I'm planning to visit the old home soon, and was doing some reaserch and got your site from a link from the Pennine Bus site (Good ol' Pennine) I just want to say it's one of the best community sites I've come across for information, discussion and the like. It's a real asset to the town. Makes me want to move back "home" even more - NS. UK

Just found your site, just had to say its absolutely brilliant. My wife and I have just started doing your walks. A bit of a heart condition forced us to stop walking for a few years, and now we are just getting back into it, and your site is making it ever so easy to pick the right walks to choose at this time. Absolutely well done - MP. UK

Just came across your fun website whilst looking at Bingley pictures. I love the chat and Cragface really made me chortle - JF. Yorkshire

You have an excellent website and it is a huge asset to our
community. May I wish you all the best, and keep up the good work! - CB. Skipton
