Snakes at Greatwood22 August 2002 This event is one of a series of chidren's events organised by Skipton Library Love 'em or hate'em? Snakes fascinate both the young and old, and with there being over two and a half thousand species to choose from, you have a wide choice to feed your mice, insects, and ferret on. Down at the Greatwood Community Centre on 22 August 2002, along came ex-policeman, Mr. Paul Nutter, with just a few of his snake menagerie. All the audience were awe struck...only one escaped... (child not reptile, and that was the child to escape from the reptiles). Paul talked for over an hour on the vagaries of keeping snakes, whilst the snakes slept or did their darting, hissing, vacillation. He has kept and bred snakes now since the late 1980's...after his son had a desire for one as a pet, and then after his sons' enthusiasm waned, Paul continued to become more involved. His interest has been in mainly keeping common or garden European and American snakes, and he has kept some dozen or so different species. He enjoys touring the area giving talks to a wide ranging audience. No doubt about it, my wife gets a python for Christmas.
