SkiptonWeb: online since 19th June 1999. That's over 12 years, or... 155 months, or 4,721 days, or 113,327 hours, or 6,799,633 minutes, depending how you look at it. Where were you?
On the whole I'd say it seems to be VFM. I suppose the usual suspects such as the emergency services, street cleansing, health & social care and refuse collection are needed, at some point, by all. There's bound to be some areas that the council are weak on: road maintanence, local transport planning, and some services I may never use: libraries, recreation facilities, and probably many more, but...

Absolute nonsense as others have stated. Please check "facts" before circulating them to others (Snopes is very good for this). Also, a little common sense would tell you this is complete garbage - what about people whose PIN is palindromic? 1221 backwards is still 1221, are the police going to come hurtling round the corner every time one of these people uses an ATM?

This site is big, and there is a lot of information on it. There should
be a lot more, though. When we originally built this website we we're
relying heavily on you, the users, to help us with ideas, suggestions,
articles, and more input. Yeah, honestly, we were - we thought we'd
have people crawling out of the woodwork. Ah the innocence, the blind
faith we used to have... So far exactly one person has ever submitted
any content. In four years. Go on, amaze us... more

If you are a local business or organisation and want to get on the
net, why not talk to us? We can help with design, hosting and general
advice. You'll be surprised how reasonable we are. See our web

have to be in Skipton.

Growing Up in Old Skipton
Edited by Stephanie Carter and Ella Hatfield |
|
 |
Based on the memoirs of Joyce Murgatroyd who was born in 1892, the book
tells of her life in Old Skipton and gives a new perspective to a
familiar subject. It is lavishly illustrated with pictures of where the
family lived and shopped, the clothes they wore and what their servants
used in their work, of Joyce’s family, school and church. They were an
ordinary family, and their lives would have been the same as so many of
their generation in Skipton.
What it was like to go to Skipton Girls’ Grammar School in its early
days? Can you imagine the excitement of seeing the world-famous Buffalo
Bill’s Wild West Show unloading its three special trains right next to
your house, in the days before cinema and television? And what went into
the sausages you bought?
Many of the photographs have never been published before; they will stir
nostalgia for the past in older folk and fascination in the young. The
painting on the cover, by W.T. Shuttleworth, is of Skipton only two
years before Joyce’s birth, showing the High Street as she would have
known it as a child.
Stephanie Carter has previously co-authored Craven College, a history of
Further Education in Skipton, as well as historical books on Earby. Ella
Hatfield is the author of Skipton, and of several articles on aspects of
local history.
Every school in Skipton has received a free copy of this book, thanks to
the generosity of Skipton Mechanics’ Institute who contributed to the
cost of the publication.
Growing Up in Old Skipton costs £7.99 and is available from Skipton
Castle, Craven Museum & Gallery, Skipton Library, WH Smiths, Alley
Books, New Chapter and other local venues. |
